Darmasiswa RI Scholarship

Darmasiswa RI program is a non-degree scholarship program offered to international students who come from countries that have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study Indonesian language, culture, the art of music, dance, and crafts.

The program is organized by Depdikbud (Departemen Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan – The Education and Culture Department) in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this program, participants can choose one of 45 universities in Indonesia which have established cooperation with Depdikbud.

Darmasiswa RI has begun in 1974 aimed for students from South East Asian countries or the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). But since 1976, the program expanded by inviting students from other countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and the United States. Since the early 1990s, the program was expanded again to all the countries that have diplomatic relations with Indonesia. Nowadays, the number of countries participating in the Darmasiswa RI program has reached more than 75 countries.

The main purpose of Darmasiswa RI program is to promote and increase the youth interest in language, art and culture of Indonesia among the participating countries. In addition, the program is also designed to build strong culture relations and tolerances among the countries.

Darmasiswa RI is divided into two schema, namely, Regular Program (one year) and Short Course program (six months). Regular Program is a non-degree scholarship program for one year offered to international students who come from countries that have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study Indonesian language and art (traditional music, traditional dance, and Indonesian craft) in one of the universities in Indonesia. Regular program begins on the first week in September and ends on July of the following year. Short Course program is also a non-degree program for six months offered to international students who come from countries that also have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Indonesian language and culture at one of the universities in Indonesia. Short Course program begins on the first week in September and ends on January next year.

Every Darmasiswa RI student will receive a monthly allowance paid by BPKLN (Biro Perencanaan Kerjasama Luar Negeri – Bureau of International Cooperation Planning), Depdikbud through the transfer to the university account where the students learn. After receiving the transfer money from BPKLN, the university then delivers the money to every Darmasiswa RI student through the Office of International Education and Relations (OIER). The monthly payment covers the living expenses, books, local transportation, health and pocket money.

KNB Scholarship

KNB (Kemitraan Negara Berkembang – Developing Countries Partnership) program is a scholarship program provided by the Indonesian government to friendly countries since 1993. This program is Indonesia government’s concern as one of the founding fathers of Gerakan Non Blok (Non Aligned movement in order to contribute in the development of human resources quality in friendly countries. Additionally KNB scholarship program also aims to improve the quality of relationships among countries in the international association. Thus, when viewed from the political aspect, the existence of KNB scholarship program is very strategic.

Since 2002, after the cold war ended, KNB scholarship programs has begun to be offered to citizens of developing countries such as Thailand, Fiji, South Korea, Suriname, Guyana, Turkey, Vietnam, and Vanuatu. For years up to 2005, 243 students from 36 countries have completed the KNB scholarship program. KNB scholarship is offered to graduate students (Masters Degree) to study at one of the universities in Indonesia for 3 (three) years, consisting of 1 (one) year to learn Indonesian and master degree preparation program and 2 (two) years for completing master program.

The courses offered at KNB scholarship program are: (1) the humanities which consists of the study of literature, linguistics, history, philosophy, anthropology, and performing arts; (2) the field of science which consists of biology, physics, geography, chemistry, remote sensing, and computer; (3) agriculture which consist of agricultural economics, agronomy, soil science, plant pathology, forestry, entomology, animal science, veterinary science, agricultural engineering, food science and technology, and real crop product technology; (4) the field of social sciences which consist of public administration, political science, sociology, psychology, the study of development economics, and management science; (5) engineering which consists of chemical engineering, civil engineering, architectural engineering, electrical engineering and informatics, mechanical engineering, geology engineering, marine architectural engineering, environmental engineering, and informatics techniques; and (6) the field of education consisting of management education, research and evaluation of education, social science education, technology and vocational education, special education school, and applied linguistics.

KNB scholarship program is attended by students from various countries with different socio-cultural backgrounds. They have different customs, character, economic, social, and cultural those require special attention in its management. Small error in communicating with the student could potentially be a big problem, even possible to damage the relations between countries. Conversely, excellent and professional service in accordance with the guidelines that have been set will be able to improve the image of Indonesia in the eyes of the international students who are ambassadors of various nations. The alumni who got good cares and treatments during the KNB scholarship program will indirectly become ambassadors of our nation and can promote Indonesia in international views.

Each KNB scholar program student will also receive monthly money paid by the Depdikbud through the transfer to the account of the university where the students learn. In the neighborhood UPI, after receiving the transfer of the Ministry of National Education, the university then delivers monthly money to every international student participating in KNB scholarship program through the Office of International Education and Relations (OIER). The monthly payment includes living expenses, money for research needs, and book money.

AIMS Program

In order to improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia, three country governments, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand (MIT) agreed to conduct the cooperation named MIT Credit Transfer Program which has been realized in 2010. The cooperation of those three countries is conducted in the form of student exchange. The participating student will study in those countries and its’ semester credit will be approved by each country. The tuition fee of the study is covered by each receiver university, but the round trip tickets and living expenses are covered by each sender country. The first program was conducted in 2010 which was realized in one semester for 25 undergraduate students per country. They are from various study, such as Hospitality, Tourism, Agriculture, Linguistics, Culture, Art, International Business, and Science of Food Technology.

The aims of this program are two, for university itself and for the students. For the university, this program aims to (1) make learning systems offered by the universities in Indonesia recognized by other overseas universities; (2) build the relations with other universities in order to create new cooperation opportunities and increase education quality and capacity in each participating country; (3) create good images for the university in society sides because of the recognition from other overseas university; (4) support more development and quality academic environment because there are cultural exchange from the students studying in each country; and (5) emerge the new thought for developing education quality, even from the experience of facilitating other students from other countries studying at university in Indonesia or from the experience of Indonesia students studying in other countries. For the student, this program aims to (1) get additional knowledge and International achievement given by overseas university; (2) get additional experience by learning culture directly from overseas country; (3) improve relevancy and satisfaction of the alumni user by getting the alumni who has good hard skills and soft skill; (4) create more developed academic situation and quality among the college students.

U to U Program

U to U program is the student exchange program that facilitated by two university. The program is conducted by making cooperation with various universities in the world by signing a cooperation agreement or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). UPI has cooperated with several foreign universities and should immediately follow up and implement the cooperation agreements. U to U program has various roles depended on the agreement or MoU signed by both sides. This program is to realize UPI’s vision as a leading and outstanding university. One of the main targets to achieve these goals is through internationalization program.

UPI International Scholarship

UPI International Scholarships is a program of scholarships granted by UPI for international students to learn the language and culture of Indonesia in UPI. This program is intended to promote UPI to the international world as part of the internationalization of education in Indonesia to gain international recognition. The program is in line with UPI vision to become a leading and outstanding university. UPI International Scholarships program provides the opportunity for students to learn the language and culture of Indonesia at UPI for one semester or 12 semester credit units. Achievement of these credits can be transferred to meet the requirements of the completion of the study and get a college degree in their home country.

UPI International Scholarships program includes tuition fee and monthly allowance for living. Other costs such as round-trip airfare, passport, visa, insurance, transportation and other expenses are the responsibility of each student.
