Jakarta – Indonesian citizens now have various options for passport types. The Directorate General of Immigration has currently issued three types of passports: regular passports, electronic passports, and the newest addition, polycarbonate electronic passports. Polycarbonate electronic passports offer a higher level of security due to the thicker polycarbonate sheet that better protects the owner’s identity and information.
Initially, polycarbonate electronic passports were only issued at five Immigration Offices in Indonesia: Class I Immigration Offices for Special Soekarno Hatta International Airport,
Class I Immigration Office for Non-Special Soekarno Hatta International Airport West Jakarta, Class I Immigration Office for Non-Special South Jakarta, Central Jakarta Immigration Office, and North Jakarta Immigration Office. However, citizens can now also apply for polycarbonate electronic passports at the Class I Immigration Office for Special Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Bandung.
Acting Mayor of Bandung, Ir. Bambang Tirtoyuliono, M.M., became the first person to receive a polycarbonate electronic passport at the Class I Immigration Office for Special Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Bandung. “Replacing passports turns out to be very easy. And this is the first launch of polycarbonate passports, which certainly meet international standards,” said Bambang Tirtoyuliono during the launch of polycarbonate passports at the Class I Immigration Office for Special Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Bandung on Monday (29/04/2024). The Acting Mayor of Bandung also congratulated the Bandung Immigration Office for their extraordinary innovation and urged them to provide the best service to the public.
In the future, citizens can apply for polycarbonate electronic passports through the M-Passport application, just like applicants for regular or electronic passports. The application fee for polycarbonate electronic passports is the same as that for laminated electronic passports, which is Rp 650,000. Meanwhile, an expedited service fee is subject to a Non-Tax State Revenue (PNPB) tariff of Rp 1,000,000.
“These polycarbonate passports can enhance or strengthen Indonesia’s passport power internationally. Therefore, it is hoped that the Indonesian passport will be stronger,” added Agung Pramono, Head of the Class I Immigration Office in Bandung. Agung also urged all citizens, especially those in Bandung, to take good care of their passports as passports are the identity used when abroad.”
