Enhancing Academic Performance Indicators through International Community Engagement: Empowering Accounting Education for Indonesian Teachers in Davao, Philippines

The team of lecturers from the Accounting Education Program, Faculty of Economics and Business Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, successfully boosted the achievement of the main performance indicators (IKU) of the program through the implementation of an International Community Engagement (ICE) project for Indonesian teachers at the Indonesian School Davao in the Philippines.

The ICE initiative aimed to enhance the professional competence of teachers in developing high-quality teaching modules tailored to the current needs and advancements in accounting education. The outcomes of this endeavor included partnership agreements, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) posters, copyright videos, as well as a teaching module on Service Accounting with IPR and ISBN.

Dr. Heni Mulyani, M.Pd, and Fitrina Kurniati, S.Pd., M.Ak, from the Accounting Education Program, provided intensive guidance to the teachers in developing teaching modules for service accounting. The activity was conducted through a hybrid approach, combining online and offline sessions. The online sessions took place from April 25 to April 29, 2024, followed by an offline session on May 11, 2024, at the Indonesian School Davao City in the Philippines.

During both online and offline sessions, the lecturers assisted the teachers in developing teaching modules covering four main topics: module development, citation, code of ethics, utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for instructional material creation, and student module design.

The ICE project was conducted in collaboration with the international institution, the Association of Public Sector Accounting Educators (APSAE), which focuses on enhancing the capacity of educators in research, community engagement, and improving competency and expertise through the CIPSAS (Certificate in International Public Sector Accounting Standards) certification.

Through this initiative, the Accounting Education Program successfully improved the achievement of key performance indicators (IKU), specifically IKU 3 – lecturers’ involvement in the Tridharma of higher education elsewhere, working as practitioners in the industry, or guiding students in activities beyond the program, and IKU 6 – enhancement of program partnerships (Yana Setiawan).
