Jakarta, July 18, 2023 – Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) officially signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in an event witnessed by the Minister of Education Malaysia. The significant occasion was attended by several officials from both universities, who are committed to strengthening educational cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.
From Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Sholehuddin, M.Pd, M.A., the Rector of UPI, Prof. Dr. Didi Sukyadi, M.A., Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Tri Indri Hardini, M.Pd., the Dean of FPBS UPI, Prof. Dr. Yulianeta, M.Pd., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FPBS UPI, and Prof. Emi Emilia, M.Ed., Ph.D., the Chairperson of the English Language Education Study Program, were present. From Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Prof. Dato GS. TS. DR Mohd. Ekhwan Hj. Toriman, the Rector of UKM, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Mahzan bin Awang, the Dean of the Faculty of Education UKM, Prof. Datuk Dr. Muhammad Hussin, the Director of UKM Shape, and Dr. Nur Ehsan Mohd Said, Ph.D., the Head of the TESL Study Program, Faculty of Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, attended the event.
On this occasion, UPI and UKM also agreed on the initiation of a Double Degree Doctorate in English Language Education program, which will be followed by master’s and undergraduate programs. The program aims to produce graduates and scholars with a deep understanding of English language education from a cross-cultural perspective. Students participating in this program will have the opportunity to study and teach at both universities, earning internationally recognized dual degrees.
The significant event took place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Jakarta and was titled “Exchange Ceremony of The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and Memorandum of Understanding Malaysia-Indonesia (MoU).” This collaboration is expected to benefit both educational institutions and foster knowledge and experience exchange in the field of education between Malaysia and Indonesia. Through this cooperation, innovative and collaborative programs are anticipated to be developed to advance education in both countries.
We hope that this collaboration will serve as a strong foundation for knowledge exchange, curriculum development, research, and human resource development in the field of education. Additionally, we anticipate that this partnership will enrich students’ academic experiences and open up broader opportunities for future collaborations.
