In Indonesia, the improper disposal of used cooking oil poses a serious environmental threat, particularly among households and SMEs. Recognising this pressing challenge, the Minnova application has been developed to turn waste into opportunity.

A meeting and discussion took place on Friday, 11 October 2024, between the Minnova team—comprising of fifth-semester Business Digital Students Study Programme at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI)—and JIIM (Japan-Indonesia Investment and Management). This collaboration aims to assist the Minnova team in developing and promoting their innovative application, designed to transform used cooking oil into recyclable products that can be sold or repurposed.

The Minnova application is poised to support numerous households, SMEs, and restaurants in effectively processing used cooking oil. Key features include a pick-up option for collecting oil designated for recycling, an educational section with articles and tips, a workshop feature providing guidance on recycling, and a redeem points function that allows users to convert accumulated points into credit for their e-wallets.

Tani Masaki, Director of JIIM, expressed great appreciation for the innovative ideas behind this application. “Patenting the application promptly is crucial for realising our ambition to develop and disseminate it swiftly,” Tani Masaki stated. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of considering tax obligations and identifying suitable regions to support the forthcoming programme before pursuing partnership opportunities.

Providing valuable insights into the necessary steps for business expansion, the discussion also emphasises the balance required and the immediate actions needed to align the application with the creators’ vision.
