Promoting Clean and Healthy Living Habits Among Indonesian Migrant Workers in Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Healthy and clean-living habits are a shared responsibility and should become a daily cultural practice to avoid various diseases. Under the theme “Enhancing the Capacity for Clean and Healthy Living Behavior,” Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) conducted a program to promote these habits among Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The three-day socialization and service activity in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, was led by the PKM-LN UPI team consisting of Ida Hamidah, Leni Anggraeni, and Bakhrani A. Rauf.

“We conducted this activity for three days targeting Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Malaysia,” said Ida Hamidah, Head of the PKM-LN UPI Team, on Sunday (23/06/2024).

Ida explained that enhancing the capacity for clean and healthy living behavior through low-carbon living habits was specifically designed for Indonesian citizens in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This activity was conducted as part of the university’s obligation to community service, one of the core duties of lecturers.

“This activity is a concrete effort by the university to contribute to society through the Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) Program, which aims to prevent diseases by promoting clean and healthy living habits,” said Ida.

She emphasized the importance of PHBS for everyone, including Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). Living abroad makes health even more critical.

“If they fall ill, it creates new problems due to limited access to healthcare services and the absence of family to care for them,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Leni Anggraeni, another team member, added that they offered solutions through socialization on clean and healthy living habits and how to adopt low-carbon living behaviors.

The goal of promoting clean and healthy living through low-carbon habits is to enhance the capacity of PMI in Malaysia to maintain clean and healthy living habits, thereby preventing disease.

“We, along with the Indonesian Embassy in Johor Bahru, are partners in this service activity, helping to bridge UPI’s service programs and those of other LPTKNI members,” she added.

“In addition to socialization, the PKM-LN Team also formed several groups consisting of PMI to ensure the sustainability of the PHBS program,” she concluded. (tvrijakartanews)
