The Islamic Economics and Finance Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business Education at the University of Education Indonesia, in collaboration with the National Charity House of Amal Salman (LAZ Nasional Rumah Amal Salman), successfully organized a Seminar on Shariah Finance as part of its International Community Service initiative dedicated to Amil Se Bandung Raya on Friday, May 3, 2024. The seminar, held at the Multipurpose Hall of Salman Mosque, ITB, featured Associate Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hakimi Bin Mohd Shafiai (Islamic Economics Cluster (EKONIS) Center of Sustainable and Inclusive Development (SID) Faculty of Economics and Management, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) and Associate Prof. Dr. Muhamad Abduh (School of Business and Economics, Universiti Brunei Darussalam) as speakers.
The Seminar on Shariah Finance was attended by several key stakeholders, including the Head of the Islamic Economics and Finance Program, the Director of Rumah Amal Salman, IEKI UPI Lecturers, Young Amil from Rumah Amal Salman, and Amil Se Bandung Raya. The event commenced at 08:30, facilitated by Firda Syafriyanti, S.Pd (Head of the Scholarship BSO of Rumah Amal Salman), followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran by Miftahudin, S.I.Kom (Head of Strategic Partnership and Networks at Rumah Amal Salman), and opening remarks.
During the event, Dr. Aas Nurasiyah, M.Pd, as the Head of the IEKI Program, conveyed that the seminar was part of the program’s efforts to introduce Social Shariah Finance. The seminar was a part of the Adjunct Professor program funded by the World Class University (WCU) grant at UPI 2024. Similarly, Syahrial S.T., M.S.P, the Director of Rumah Amal Salman, highlighted that the event strengthened collaborative networks between zakat institutions and educational institutions to deepen understanding of the importance of implementing Shariah economics for the welfare of society at large.
Subsequently, the seminar was moderated by Mumuh Muhammad S.E., M.A, a lecturer from the IEKI Program. The first speaker, Associate Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hakimi, discussed the theoretical and practical considerations of inclusive social Shariah finance through waqf and qardul hasan schemes. He emphasized that Islamic social finance systems, whether through waqf or zakat instruments, are expected to utilize modern systems rather than traditional methods. The second speaker, Associate Prof. Dr. Muhamad Abduh, outlined the development of ZISWAF Institutions in various countries such as Brunei and Malaysia. He stressed the importance of these examples, indicating that in these countries, it is expected that communities will contribute to ZISWAF Institutions to ensure equitable distribution and professional management by Zakat Collection Institutions.
