Tokyo, Kemendikbudristek — The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing higher education accreditation in Indonesia. This commitment materialized through the collaboration between the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and the Japan Institution for Higher Education Evaluation (JIHEE) held in Tokyo, Japan, on November 27-28, 2023.

Ari Purbayanto, the Executive Board Director of BAN-PT, emphasized the importance of the collaboration with JIHEE. “BAN-PT encourages the acceleration of implementing the results of this collaboration to be applied in the external quality assurance system of higher education in Indonesia,” said Ari.

During the meeting, Ari also appreciated the various collaborations between BAN-PT and JIHEE, one of the five institutional accreditation bodies in Japan, especially in the field of vocational education in Indonesia.

President of JIHEE, Ishii Masahiko, highlighted JIHEE’s innovation in evaluating the performance achievements of higher education institutions, reported to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan (Monbukagakusho) for development while encouraging continuous collaboration between JIHEE and BAN-PT to enhance the quality of higher education in both countries.

In a separate occasion, Yusli Wardiatno, the Education and Cultural Attaché (Atdikbud) at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, underscored the significance of the collaboration in higher education conducted by BAN-PT with JIHEE.

“Collaboration with institutions like JIHEE is vital to bring Indonesia’s higher education accreditation system in line with international standards. We fully support BAN-PT’s initiative in this regard,” expressed Yusli during an audience with Ari Purbayanto and Executive Board Member for Data and Information Systems, BAN-PT, Agus Setyo Muntohar.

Through adjustments to the accreditation system and instruments in accordance with the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation (Permendikbud) Number 53 of 2023, BAN-PT hopes to gain new insights for the development of accreditation instruments that are responsive to the needs and challenges of the times.

This visit marks a significant step in BAN-PT’s efforts to improve the quality of higher education accreditation in Indonesia by learning from best practices in Japan and closely collaborating with the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo through Atdikbud KBRI Tokyo, to advance Indonesian higher education on the international stage.
