SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS #14
Life Below Water
Comprehensive report on UPI’s contribution to conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas, and marine resources through education programs, ecosystem conservation, sustainable aquaculture practices, and water quality management.
Executive Summary
Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) demonstrates comprehensive commitment to marine and aquatic ecosystem conservation through FREE educational programs, research initiatives, and policy frameworks. The university actively provides educational programs on freshwater ecosystems, sustainable fisheries management, and aquaculture for local communities without charge.
UPI has established formal policies including the 2024 Healthy Campus Policy and 2025 Rector’s Regulation No. 33 on Environmentally Friendly Campus Management covering sustainable aquatic food sourcing, water quality standards, marine pollution prevention, and plastic waste reduction. The university conducts research and monitoring on aquatic ecosystem health, develops ad hoc stewardship programs through UPI Serang Campus marine programs, and actively collaborates with local communities to maintain shared aquatic ecosystems.
Supporting Aquatic Ecosystems Through Education
💧 Freshwater Ecosystem EducationView Evidence📰
The university offers educational programs related to freshwater ecosystems and water management for local communities through its outreach initiatives. These programs cover water irrigation practices, water management, and conservation strategies.
🐟 Sustainable Fisheries & Aquaculture EducationView Evidence🔗
UPI offers educational outreach on sustainable fisheries management for local communities. The Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Serang Campus actively provides programs on sustainable management of fisheries, aquaculture, and tourism.
⚠️ Overfishing & Destructive Practices AwarenessView Evidence📰
The university conducts educational outreach that includes aspects related to the sustainable management of marine resources, which is critical for raising awareness about overfishing, illegal fishing, and destructive fishing practices.
Supporting Aquatic Ecosystems Through Action
🌊 Marine Conservation EventsView Evidence🔗
Through maritime study programs at UPI Serang Campus, the university actively supports and organizes events aimed at promoting the conservation and sustainable utilization of oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and marine resources.
🍽️ Sustainable Aquatic Food PolicyView Evidence📄
UPI does not yet have a specific policy requiring that food on campus from aquatic ecosystems be sustainably harvested. However, the university established Rector Policy Number 1 of 2024 regarding Healthy Campus Policy, which was reviewed and updated as Rector Regulation Number 37 of 2024.
