Kuala Lumpur – Lecturers from the University of Education Indonesia collaborated with the Indonesian School Kuala Lumpur and At Tanzil Learning Studio, Malaysia, to conduct an International Community Service Activity with the theme “Islamic Financial Planning and Shariah Investment for Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Children in Malaysia,” from May 2 to May 4, 2024. The purpose of this activity was to provide insights into investment diversification that could assist Indonesian migrant workers’ children in Malaysia in managing their finances in accordance with Islamic principles.
The activity was attended by 30 participants, who were children from the At Tanzil Learning Studio. During the activity, participants were provided with insights into the importance of financial planning from an early age. Educational materials were delivered by Mimin Widaningsih, a lecturer from the Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business Education, University of Education Indonesia, using enjoyable methods such as games, animated videos, and hands-on practice in developing simple financial plans.
Furthermore, participants were also equipped with knowledge about the importance of allocating funds for zakat, infaq, sedekah, and wakaf (ZISWAF) in financial planning. According to Elis Mediawati, the person in charge of implementing the activity, ZISWAF-based financial planning can be an alternative for economic strengthening, and it is hoped that through this activity, meaningful contributions can be made to Shariah financial education for the younger generation, so that they can grow into individuals who are not only financially intelligent but also sensitive to the ethical and spiritual values in Islamic economics.
This community service activity is a manifestation of the commitment of the University of Education Indonesia (UPI) and the Indonesian School Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) in carrying out the Tridharma of Higher Education, particularly in the fields of community service and international cooperation. In the future, both institutions plan to expand the reach of Shariah financial literacy education for the Indonesian community in Malaysia.
