UPI Purwakarta Hosts 2024 Exploring Indonesian Culture Summer Course

Purwakarta, June 10, 2024 – The Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Purwakarta campus is hosting the 2024 Exploring Indonesian Culture Summer Course (EICSC). The program features 10 international students from Kasetsart University (Thailand), Battambang Teacher Education College (Cambodia), and Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (Cambodia). The EICSC 2024 Opening Ceremony took place in the Smartclass Room on Monday, June 10, 2024.

According to Dr. Neneng Sri Wulan, M.Pd., Head of the PGSD Study Program, the two-week program aims to introduce the Indonesian language and culture, explore the beauty of cultural diversity, provide foreign students with the experience of learning about Indonesia, and enhance collaboration with universities from neighboring countries.
“This program also helps foreign students communicate in Indonesian, both in the classroom and in daily activities,” she stated.
During the Summer Course, in addition to learning the Indonesian language, international students will learn to make traditional Indonesian drinks (Jamu), sing Indonesian songs, batik, cook traditional Indonesian dishes, dance traditional Indonesian dances, play the gamelan, and more. The program instructors include Dr. Neneng Sri Wulan, M.Pd., Nenden Permas Hikmatunnisa, M.Pd., M.A., Fitri Nuraeni, M.Pd., and Tiara Yogiarni, M.Pd.
In his welcoming speech, UPI Purwakarta Campus Director, Prof. Dr. Yayan Nurbayan, M.Ag., expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the summer course’s implementation. He hoped that despite the short duration, students would gain knowledge about Indonesia’s cultural diversity. “I hope the students can learn together and gain experience in international exchange. May this activity run smoothly and successfully,” Prof. Yayan remarked.
One of the students, Chayaphum Saelee from Kasetsart University (Thailand), shared his motivation for joining the summer course: to gain new experiences and to see the beauty of Indonesia. “My motivation to join this program is to experience new knowledge and learn about Indonesian culture, cuisine, and typical food,” he said.
