In terms of institutional performance, scientific publications are a key performance indicator (KPI), particularly Indicator 5, which involves the implementation of faculty work in the form of scientific publications as required by UPI’s performance contract with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as outlined in Ministerial Decree No. 210/M/2023 on Higher Education and Higher Education Service Institution KPIs.
For institutional reputation, scientific publications and citations are crucial components in enhancing the university’s reputation, competitiveness, and ranking at both national and international levels. The number of scientific publications and citations is a significant criterion in global university rankings such as the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS-WUR), The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Webometrics, and other ranking systems.
