Vocational Campuses Can Now Participate in the Independent Student Exchange Program

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) will organize the third batch of Independent Student Exchange (PMM 3) this year. The domestic student exchange program, which is part of the Independent Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, provides opportunities for students to gain a unique study experience for one semester while simultaneously exploring the diversity of the archipelago, which is recognized with learning recognition worth 20 credits.

“We know that the Merdeka Campus program is essentially preparing college graduates to be the best they can be. Through PMM students have the opportunity to build friendship across the archipelago as well as gain knowledge and experience from destination campuses,” explained Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Plt. Director General of Higher Education), Ministry of Education and Culture, Nizam.

He conveyed this during the Socialization of Technical Registration for Prospective Higher Education Recipients of PMM 3 which was held online for West Indonesia regional PTs, Tuesday (17/1) via the Merdeka Student Exchange Youtube channel. Subsequent outreach will also be held for Central Indonesia and East Indonesia regional PTs on Wednesday (18/1) and Thursday (19/1).

In addition to providing benefits for students, according to Nizam the PMM program also has a positive impact on the recipient universities. The presence of students from all corners of the archipelago creates a unique and dynamic atmosphere and learning environment.

One of the uniqueness of the PMM program which was launched in 2021 ago is a special curriculum called the Nusantara Module. This curriculum bridges meeting spaces between students to explore Indonesia’s diversity through Diversity, Inspiration, Reflection, and Social Contribution activities. Nizam hopes that this program can really realize Bhineka Tunggal Ika, diversity, and the red and white spirit that will strengthen the unity and integrity of the nation.

Vocational Engagement

One of the novelties of PMM 3 is the involvement of Vocational Education Provider Universities (PTPPV) which for the first time will take part as Recipient and Sending Universities (PT).

The Director General of Vocational Education (Dirjen Diksi), Kiki Yuliati, explained that learning in the Free Student Exchange program provides unique challenges and opportunities for vocational students to develop their creativity, capacity, personality and independence in seeking and finding knowledge through experience in the field. .

“We hope that our vocational students can have learning experiences outside of their campuses so that they take part in learning in an unlimited learning space. They can carry out close interactions between vocations and the world of work, between vocations and the community, and we hope that the PMM participants will also color Indonesian culture and civilization,” he said.

This year, PMM has prepared a quota for 150 recipient PTs. This figure shows an increase because PMM 2 in 2022 involved 138 recipient PTs in 30 provinces out of 194 registered PTs.

The recipient PT registration period is open from January 11 to February 8 2023. To register for PMM 3, prospective participating universities can access the https://pmm.kampusmerdeka.kemdikbud.go.id/ page. The registration for prospective students participating in the PMM 3 program will be announced later.

“We open opportunities for universities, lecturers, and students to join the PMM 3 program so they can celebrate diversity in Indonesia together. We hope that Ladies and Gentlemen’s Universities who attend this opportunity will immediately register as PMM 3 recipient PTs and open up as many quotas as possible for inbound students to study at ladies and gentlemen’s universities,” said the Head of the Free Student Exchange Program and Teaching Campus, Asri Aldila Princess.
