Prof. Margaret Topping from Queen’s University Belfast, UK gives workshop to UPI postgraduate students

Prof. Margaret Topping from Queen’s University Belfast, UK gives a workshop to UPI postgraduate students on Friday, February 28th, 2020, at FPBS Auditorium 4th Floor.

UPI strives to work in improving the quality of its students’ education, some of the strategies including conducting workshops or inviting guest lecturers from overseas universities to increase the quality of UPI students.

The Head of Office of International Education and Relations (OIER), Ahmad Bukhori Muslim, Ph.D. delivered opening remarks as he opened the workshop. On his remarks, he said, “Our mission is to engage UPI students in more overseas activities, we also encourage our postgraduates students to actively participate in their areas of expertise as researchers.”

Margaret Topping is a professor of French Literary and Visual Cultures and also the Dean of Graduate School of Queen’s University Belfast. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Oxford University, gaining a Joint Honours degree in French and Spanish (1994), an M.St. (1995), and a D.Phil. (1998).

In her lecture, Prof. Margaret Topping explained a topic about: “Researchers are leaders”, researchers should have the quality to keep being relevant with the development of society and technology. She said that researchers have the ability to change what they want to see in the world. She also invited the workshop participants into interactive discussion activities.

The workshop was one of a form of partnership collaboration between UPI and IBEC. IBEC (Indonesia Britain Education Centre) is an official representative that provides comprehensive information and guidance to prospective Indonesian students who wish to continue their education to various universities and colleges in the United Kingdom.
