University of Education Indonesia Launches Law Program to Meet Growing Demand for Legal Professionals

The establishment of the Law Program at the University of Education Indonesia has received a favorable recommendation for opening, as per Letter Number B-366/UN40.SA/TP.01.06/2023 dated December 13, 2023, from the Academic Senate of the University of Education Indonesia. Following this, the University of Education Indonesia officially accepted the decision and recommendation that the Law Program meets the minimum accreditation requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree Program at the University of Education Indonesia on March 6, 2024, from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education through Letter Number 465/BAN-PT/LL/2024 Regarding the Fulfillment of Minimum Accreditation Requirements for the Opening of a New Law Program. This determination was made through a Plenary Meeting of the Executive Board of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education on February 20, 2024.

Based on these considerations and decisions, Rector Prof. Dr. M. Solehuddin, M.Pd, MA officially established Decision Number 398/UN40/HK.02/2024 Regarding the Opening of the Law Program Bachelor’s Degree at the Faculty of Social Science University of Education Indonesia on March 12, 2024, coinciding with the 1st day of Ramadan 1445. Through this decision, the Law Program is tasked with implementing education programs that include (1) enhancing the quality of education, research, and community service at the program study level; (2) developing specialty groups and competencies; and (3) ensuring academic quality at the program study level. Furthermore, the Law Program is authorized to accept students and conduct learning in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Prof. Dr. Cecep Darmawan, S.H., S.I.P., S.A.P., S.Pd., M.H. M.Si., as the Head of the Program Development Team for the Bachelor’s Degree Law Program at the Faculty of Social Science UPI, explained that the establishment of this program is an effort to produce human resources that are masterful and adaptive to the development of society in the present and future. In addition, the establishment of the program is aimed at strengthening the identity and motto of UPI as a Leading and Excellent University that emphasizes legal education based on the values of Pancasila, so that the Bachelor’s Degree in Law Program is expected to produce graduates in the field of law as expected from the reform of higher legal education in Indonesia.

According to him, the Bachelor’s Degree in Law Program at FPIPS UPI is expected to be an answer to the public’s desire, especially for the Bandung City, West Java, and Nationally, to meet the qualification development of human resources in the legal field that is much needed by the labor market. This desire can be seen from the last two years showing a high interest in the Law Program among potential students in Indonesia. The job opportunities for graduates in the legal field are also wide open, especially with the advent of the 5.0 industrial revolution.
