Passports are essential documents for international travel. However, did you know that there is another type of passport that is not widely known by the public? It’s called a polycarbonate sheet electronic passport.
In contrast to ordinary passports and electronic passports with laminated sheets, the biodata page on a polycarbonate sheet electronic passport is made of a stronger material, such as plastic, so it won’t fold. This makes it more durable and long-lasting.
The polycarbonate sheet electronic passport also stores the holder’s data in an embedded chip, making it more accurate and easier to verify when applying for a visa at the embassy of the destination country.
To apply for a polycarbonate sheet electronic passport, you can do it online through the M-Passport Application and select the type of passport. Upload the required documents and proceed to payment. Passport payments must be made no later than two hours after the application is registered in the application.
There are currently three immigration offices that serve polycarbonate sheet electronic passport applications: TPI Soekarno-Hatta Special Class I Immigration Office, Class I Special Immigration Office for Non-TPI in South Jakarta, and Class I Immigration Office for Non-TPI in West Jakarta.
For applicants who are applying for a passport for the first time, prepare the following requirements: ID cards, family cards, birth certificates, diplomas/marriage books/baptism certificates, and court orders for those who have changed their name. Meanwhile, for applicants who change their electronic passports to polycarbonate sheets, it is enough to attach their KTP and old passport.
The fee for applying for a polycarbonate sheet electronic passport is the same as for an electronic passport for a laminated sheet, which is IDR 650,000.
It’s important to note that applications for polycarbonate sheet electronic passports can also be made by walk-in if the quota is available. The walk-in service at the immigration office is intended for people who have urgent needs, and for passport acceleration services, there is a Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) rate of IDR 1,000,000 which is regulated in PP 28 of 2019.
In conclusion, knowing the types of passports available is essential for travelers. The polycarbonate sheet electronic passport is a durable and accurate option for those looking for a more long-lasting document. Apply through the M-Passport Application online or visit one of the three immigration offices that offer this service. Happy travels!
